Influentual Images

I looked for photos online and found a few that I thought I could incorporate into filming. Such as the black and white images. I thought that it would be nice for it to be filmed in black and white so that the light is more exaggerated. The second photo below is the view I want from above when I use the camera to spin on a pole. I think that for the images above I like how some of the images are from low angles and slightly angled and I like the shot of the foot as its a point of view shot but also a extreme close up.

Saltwater- Chicane

The song i have chosen to do my A2 music video to is saltwater by chicane- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9u6jKV9TPLc . As this song is fast paced iwanted there to be alot of action and movement. the idea i had for the performer would be for a teenage girl in a long flowing dress, running, as if being chased or running away, throught the woods.

Influences

I wanted to use the zido shot to give the effect of being lost or out of control. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=61GgIn3kWJw i thought this would look effective if the girl was running towards the camera as i was doing the shot so it looks like shes running but not moving anywhere. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y48R6-iIYHs.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oTLJjoW867g I found a video on YouTube, with a similar set up to mine ( running). i was planning on doing different speed effects on the pace of the running, for example going in slow motion and then sped up. I like this effect as its quite subtle but enhances the pace of the music.

I would also like to have a cloning effect, so if i had the girl running and then stop and then split off from the same point, forming three new people that all head off in different directions, and then to have the girl that stopped to carry on running forward out of shot.

I wanted to do split screens so that i could have the girl running out of shot and then with the use of a split screen, have her running into another shot in a different location. i found inspiration for this through this right move advert. I also thought that this could work if i had the girl run towards the camera and i get a close up, for example her eye, and then when i zoom out shes somewhere else and carries on running. you will see this used in the first second of this clip. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NpYxlc0kUiY

I was thinking of using some unusual camera angles such as 360-degree pans to show the girls point of view and to also add to the feeling of being confused, lost or trapped. i also want to do a shot over the top of the girls head of her spinning one way and the camera spinning the other, almost created a vortex effect. to do this i may have to attach the camera securley to a pole and spin it overhead while filming but i may have to evaluate easier ways. this could look even better if i also add a fisheye effect to it.

Initial Idea- Saltwater by Chicane

My initial idea for my music video was to have fast paced action shots with lots of movement and angles. I want the costume to be long and flowing so that it will enhance the movement of the person in the video. I think that haveing extreme close ups of the face and maybe feet, flash up quickly, will make it feel more rushed and the movement feeling enhanced. I was thinking of doing the song in a wooded area or a beach and liked the idea of merging the two places together, maybe through split screens etc. Places I could film at are darenth woods or darenth country park or herne bay beach. So far i have the story line of a girl running through woods and stumbling her way through and constantly looking over her shoulder because shes being chased or is running away. i want to give the feeling of wanting to get out or feeling trapped so fish eye effects might be good to use. so cutting from the woods to the sea will create a more open feeling.

Initial Pitches

Saltwater- chicane / Sandstorm- Da rude -
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9u6jKV9TPLc
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PSYxT9GM0fQ

As both songs are fast paced I wanted there to be a lot of action in the video so I was thinking of having a girl in a white flowing dress running through the woods, as if being chased. Having extreme close ups of the face and feet, (especially when on the line ‘open your eyes’ in the saltwater song). The locations I was thinking of using were a wooded area and also a beach. I thought that the closest wooded location for the woods would be either Darenth Country park or Darenth woods and the nearest beach perhaps Herne Bay or Leysdown beach. The story of the video would be a girl running, constantly looking over her shoulder and pushing her way through the woods, as if needing to get out, and then I would cut from the woods onto the beach. Almost feeling like she was running to the sea. I would have lots of different camera shots such as low angles, medium close up, extreme close up and I was also thinking of doing 360 degree pans around the girl and having some shots where the girl is running through the shot. I would also like to add special effects afterwards such as her running in slow motion and when running towards the camera have the shot almost freeze and then skip forward, almost as if jumping. In some places I would have it fast paced such as when the song speeds up, and when she runs out of the woods and starts running onto the beach I was going to have a split screen so that I could merge the two locations together. I thought that maybe using effect of smoke would be good when filming the running so that there was more depth to the shot. Ideas of doing this would be a smoke machine or and added effect after.

Warwick avenue- Duffy-

For this song I was thinking of using a girl again, so that the singing would match, as this song is quite a sad song I was thinking of doing it in black and white so the clothes would be monotone so that it fit in with the mood. The story I was thinking of doing in the video would be of a couple, a boy and a girl, having an argument, resulting in the girl walking out and getting into the back seat of a car and driving away. Then I would film from the back seat of the car and have the girl lip syncing the words. When she gets out of the car she sits and waits on a bench still singing, and when the songs about to finish she walks past the entrance of the tube station Warwick Avenue. The locations I would use for this video would be a normal house so that I can have argument at the beginning in it and then I will need to shoot the outside of the house as she walks away. I would also need to film in the backseat of a car and of the girl on a bench. The last location would be the tube station. I think that the camera angles should be medium close up and mid shots to show the emotion in the girls face as it’s quite a sad song. After deciding what I wanted to do for the song I then watched the video and found that my idea was very similar to the actual video for the song. So there may be a few changes that I need to make so that they aren’t so similar.

Evaluation-

Filming

As a class we decided to re-create the Bloodhound gangs video to Bad touch. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xat1GVnl8-k&ob=av2e.

We worked well together, each taking turns filming, directing, and appearing in the video. We had fun doing it and sometimes maybe laughed a bit too much, which meant that some shots took longer to shoot and that shots were ruined because there was laughing. I feel that we could have been more prepared before we went out to do any filming, as this was our filming task and we hadn’t made a shot list. We did make a storyboard, but hadn’t looked at shot sequences or camera angles. I feel that if we had done this previous to filming then we would have gone out more prepared and got the shots we needed quicker. All though the task was quite hard and we didn’t have very long to film, I feel that we worked really well as a team, communicating with each other and letting each other know what needed to be done. I feel that the main characters were good at acting and cooperated with being moved around and having to sing and dance. Another thing that I thought was good was the props. As in the actual video they were wearing monkey costumes we felt that we also needed to be dressed in costumes. So we created hoodies with ears and tails to re-create the monkey suit. The actual filming went well as we each took turns filming so that we each got to experience filming and hold steady shots. I feel that we did a good job holding the camera steady but that at times there was a few wobbles. I felt that by each taking turns we were putting skills into practise and getting valuable video experience, which we can later use. The only negative I have about filming, was that we could have had tighter framing, but this we could crop in editing so it wasn’t such a huge problem.

Editing

The hardest part of making the video was the editing afterwards. For example once we had filmed a singing scene we then had to lip sync it, so that the lead monkey was singing at the same time as the music. At times this was really hard to do so I had to cut the beginning out so that it matched throughout, as sometimes I needed to correct it as it was a little off. This section of making the video took ages to do and was very time consuming and I had problems with my computer so it kept cutting out, resulting in me continually saving my work before the programme crashed. This was the first time I had done any editing so I learnt a lot of new skills, such as how to transform a clip, how to import, cut, move, re-size, alter timings, speed duration, reversing shots, flipping shots, and how to crop. I think that the cutting tool was the most important as it meant that I could cut the exact section I needed, and that it was the right length so that it matched the timing of the music. Editing was very stressful as it had to be exact in the timings, so you had to be very patient, but I think it paid off in the end as I had a good final video that I am proud of.

I feel that by making this video I am better equip to make my own A2 film, as I have more knowledge of the premier pro programme that I used to make the video and I also know the patience that I will need to have making it. In the end I feel that I have learnt a lot by doing it and that I can make an even better A2 video.
